Episode 256 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we’re back on the diamond discussing Hack Wilson.
From his tumultuous upbringing with alcoholic parents to his overall size (5’6” 200 lbs.), it was incredible that the stocky power hitter even became a professional baseball player.
However, Wilson was a shooting star across the National League during the late 1920s and early 1930s.
In 1929, Hack led MLB with 159 RBIs and led the Chicago Cubs to the NL pennant. In 1930, Wilson won the MVP when he hit .356, set an NL record with 56 Home Runs and set a still-standing MLB record with 191 RBIs.
Sadly, personal demons with alcohol curbed Wilson’s career in his prime. Nevertheless, his productivity with the Cubs allowed him to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979.
