Episode 264 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we’re back in the pool discussing Mark Spitz.
Before Michael Phelps & his historic performance at the 2008 Summer Olympics, it was Mark Spitz who reigned supreme as the United States’ most accomplished male swimmer.
After he earned “only” two gold medals at the 1968 Summer Games in Mexico City, Spitz shined in 1972 in Münich for the Stars & Stripes.
Overall, “The Shark” won seven gold medals and set seven world records in Germany. His records stood for 36 years, and he was the third athlete to win nine Olympic gold medals.
