As a first generation Vietnamese-American, Hong has been the source of many firsts in her family. In the tenacious spirit that brought her family to America, Hong continues to be a pioneer, dedicated to her roots yet welcoming to endless possibilities.
She shares her experiences as a mother and how she has recognized she's been carrying weight that didn't necessarily belong to her. Hong discusses how she has identified her anxieties to become more intentional about how she mothers and what she "gives" to her son. But she also shares the worries and frustrations of raising a mixed-race son in a dynamic society. From telling her son to be a "good boy" to understanding the impact microaggressions could have on her young son, we dive into our society's past and how essential diversity and inclusion is for our children.
