Description

Hi guyssss! Welcome back to the second episode of 2025!!! I wasn’t feeling too well this week but still really wanted to do an episode because I do love it here and appreciate everyone who takes time out of their day to listen 🥹 hope everyone is doing well

Anyway I wanted to talk about sustainability and overconsumption in relation to clothing (main focus is on clothing consumption but I do mention other things that I don’t feel are as sustainable). Talking about fast fashion and the impact of it. Discussing issues surrounding fast fashion. And subsequently second shopping that has arisen to combat the effects of fast fashion. So the reasons why many people think that shopping second hand/ preloved is important …

new clothes not built to last seasons - older clothing is more durable/ quality 2. to combat fast fashion and its production people want to decrease the demand for it so companies/ brands will realise that this is not what people want and be forced to listen. obviously the issue is that the clothes are made anyway/ already and companies will still be churning out more regardless. as they are focused on profit margins 3. unique sense of style … not everyone wants to look the same/ sheep so people wanna be individuals and curate their own sense of style via preloved items away from mainstream fashion/ trends

I talk about sustainability and overconsumption through the lense of an average consumer (who sometimes has been influenced by social media but haven’t we all at some point). I discuss how much we can do and change habits. Such as being mindful about purchases and what we buy. This is not the perfect solution but it is an effort to be more sustainable in today’s world.

I also mention that companies and brands may also have a responsibility to be more sustainable and that all the burden should not be on the consumer. (things like greenwashing ect can mislead consumers).

Anyway I have other things I mention in the episode … lmk what you guys think 🤔 Can we be doing more??? Should the burden be on brands and companies??? As a consumer what has been most eye opening??? Some of the things I learned when making this episode have really shocked me especially about the over consumption and how unsustainable fast fashion is in the long run?? Do you think there should be legislation to tackle fast fashion and its effects??? What do you think the wider impacts of fast fashion are going to be in the next 10 years???

note: I didn’t mention any specific brands/ companies (avoided doing this because it’s not just one specific one but many). Also I don’t want to shame people because I have also bought stuff from brands in the past when I didn’t not know about their unsustainable practices :) just something to think about …
