There is a strange appeal to rituals - whether it's priests in a temple or the kind of cups we use for communion. But Hebrews 8 points to rituals from the Old Testament, done by men here on earth, that point upward to something actually real, something actually happening even right now - done by Jesus, carried out before God, making us, somehow, acceptable as his people.

The rituals themselves have no value. The reality, however, now, that's a different thing altogether.

"If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already priests who offer the gifts prescribed by the law." Hebrews 8:4
