MICHAEL
Good morning! It’s me - Michael Ohajuru - here on Colourful Radio welcoming you to episode 0429 of our weekly news review show Five in the Eye. I hope you’re looking forward to looking back over five news stories that have caught our eye over the past week!
PHIL
And this is Phil Woodford, joining Michael via Zoom, and revealing that our top story this week is about the power of big tech companies. While Google is being taken to court in the US over its monopoly of online search, the eccentric billionaire Elon Musk says that he’s going to start charging people to use X, formerly known as Twitter.
MICHAEL
For story number two, it’s the on-off saga of the HS2 rail link. There are fears it may never reach further than Birmingham. So much, then, for ‘levelling up’ the north of England! But critics point to spiralling costs and ask: is it really worth it?
PHIL
What’s story number three? Well, are you tempted to trade in your current mobile handset for a new iPhone 15? Some say the new features don’t add a lot, while others feel we should be hanging on to our old phones and reducing consumption.
MICHAEL
At number four, it’s the Danish artist who was handed a lot of money by a Museum to create new works, but repaid them with… empty frames!
PHILAnd finally this week, to cap off the show, we travel to Spain where people apparently bet on where a donkey is going to poo for a chance to win a thousand euros.
MICHAEL
We’re probably making asses of ourselves by even discussing this, Phil! And that’s this week’s Five in the Eye!
