MICHAEL
Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of Five in the Eye! As you may know, it’s the place where we look back at five of the news stories that have caught our eye over the past seven days and pick them apart until there’s nothing left. I’m Michael Ohajuru and you’re listening to episode 0446.
PHIL
And this is Phil Woodford joining Michael via Zoom this week and revealing that our top story is going to be the government telling local councils to sell off their assets in order to plug huge funding gaps. Could there be a more terrible indictment of the Tory philosophy?
MICHAEL
And at story number two, we’re going to focus on AI. It seems as if bot-generated articles are making it into Google news feeds, potentially crowding out genuine journalism.
PHIL
For story number three, as Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp bows out - telling the world he’s run out of steam - we ask why politicians can’t do the same.
MICHAEL
What’s story number four? Well, some DLR trains now have fake control panels at the front, so children can pretend to drive. At least, they say it’s for children!
PHIL
And to cap off the show at five this week, how do you warm up your treat from Greggs? Some people like hanging their sausage rolls on radiators apparently!
MICHAEL
How common! I would never do anything like that. And that’s this week’s Five in the Eye!
