PHIL

Hello and a very warm welcome to Five in the Eye. I’m Phil Woodford, you’re listening to Colourful Radio and this is episode 0336 of our weekly news review show.

MICHAEL

And joining Phil via Zoom this week, it’s me - Michael Ohajuru - revealing that our top story is the report that vacuum manufacturer Dyson has apparently been encouraging its staff to come into the office, even though government advice is for them to stay at home because of the Omicron variant. Shouldn’t we all be more careful in the run-up to Christmas?

PHIL

For our second story, we’re delving into the world of DNA testing and the way it might be used to cure disease. American company 23andme now has a database of genetic data, second only to Ancestry.com and the Chinese government.

MICHAEL

What’s story number three, we enter the world of Non-Fungible Tokens. Non-fungible whats? you may ask. Well, don’t worry, I will explain! One of them should have sold for $300,000 recently, but was mistakenly given away for just three thousand!

PHIL

For story number four, we celebrate the woman in India who has learnt to read at the age of… wait for it… 104!

MICHAEL

And finally this week, it’s advent calendars. If there’s a chocolate missing - or perhaps one that’s below par in terms of size or quality - people are quick to complain!

PHIL

We’ll open the door on that particular story right at the end of the show. But for now, that’s this week’s Five in the Eye!
