PHIL

Good morning and a very warm welcome to Five in the Eye - the weekly show on Colourful Radio where we look back over the week’s news. In London, I’m Phil Woodford and you’re listening to episode 0361.

MICHAEL

And this is me - Michael Ohajuru - joining Phil via Zoom this week and revealing that our top story is going to be the shambles at the heart of the Tory government. Rebel MPs challenged Boris Johnson earlier this week and mustered an impressive 148 votes in a no-confidence motion. But it wasn’t enough to oust him from Number 10.

PHIL

For our second story, we tackle the issue of so-called sportswashing. Golf legend Greg Norman fronts a new Saudi-backed tournament which offers stars megabucks to play. Criticism of Qatar as the venue for this winter’s World Cup continues to rumble on. Are we allowing nations with terrible human rights records to hide behind the glamour of sport?

MICHAEL

What’s story number three this week? Well in Australia, flooding has led to lettuce crops getting ruined, so fast-food chain KFC has started substituting cabbage in its chicken burgers. A sign of things to come, with more extreme weather conditions and climate change?

PHIL

For story number four, Colourful Radio’s very own Lorraine King brought an interesting scenario to our attention on Twitter. What if you went to a wedding and discovered you were expected to pay for your own food and drink? How would you react? Well, that was the issue that confronted guests recently when their hosts spent the food money on the appearance of Mickey and Minnie Mouse?

MICHAEL

And finally this week, to wrap up the show, I spotted a very important convention taking place in Ireland. And it’s all to do with spuds!

PHIL

We should probably tell Michael to ‘jacket’ in! But instead we’ll discuss it as our fifth story on this week’s Five in the Eye!
