PHIL

You’re listening to Colourful Radio on DAB in London and the South East and streamed over the web and mobile. My name’s Phil Woodford and this is episode 0372 of our weekly news review show, Five in the Eye. A very warm welcome to you all!

MICHAEL

And joining Phil via Zoom this week, it’s me - Michael Ohajuru - revealing that our top story is going to be about the role of prison in society. There’s an outcry in France over inmates being allowed to take part in go-karting competitions. But is jail time just about punishment? And why is the system in the UK disproportionately putting Black people behind bars?

PHIL

For story number two, it’s the controversial comments of the UK’s first Black police and crime commissioner, Festus Akinbusoye, who says that the values of the Black community are closely aligned to those of the Tory Party.

MICHAEL

What’s story number three? Well, there’s now a great wifi signal on Mount Kilimanjaro - the 6,000 metre volcano in Tanzania. Great news for selfie lovers, but should some places remain unspoilt by modern technology?

PHIL

For our fourth story, we head to Hungary, where two top weather experts got the sack for predicting heavy rain that never materialised.

MICHAEL

And finally this week, to wrap up the show, we’re back to prison. It’s been discovered that the wafting smell of toast has a calming effect on lags.

PHIL

I’ve heard of porridge, but this is ridiculous! And that’s this week’s Five in the Eye!
