Hello and a very warm welcome to Five in the Eye! This is Phil Woodford in London back in the hot seat after a couple of weeks away. Thanks so much to Tony, Valentine and Kola for standing in. Now, it’s time for episode 0386 of our weekly news review.

And this is me - Michael Ohajuru - joining Phil via Zoom and revealing that our top story is going to be the speculation about the UK getting closer to the EU once again. We thought Brexit was done and dusted. But maybe it wasn’t! And some people are urging Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer to lead a campaign for us rejoin.

What’s story number two? Well, earlier this week, Iranian football players at the World Cup refused to sing their country’s National Anthem in solidarity with people protesting against the Islamic Republic. A sign of bravery, for sure. But England players were scared off from wearing armbands by the threat of a yellow card!

Our third story is about Wikipedia. Can we trust what we read on the popular site, after it has been revealed that the man who supposedly invented the toaster was… err … completely made up! Many visitors were burnt by the hoax.

For story number four, we’re back to the World Cup and Saudi Arabia’s extraordinary and unexpected victory over former champions Argentina. Followed by Japan triumphing over Germany!

And to wrap up the show, what about Rishi Sunak’s World Cup wall chart? The Prime Minister seems desperate to show himself to be a man of the people with what some are describing as a laughable video,
