MICHAEL
Hello and welcome! This is me - Michael Ohajuru - and you’re listening to Colourful Radio’s weekly news review show, Five in the Eye. And today, we’re broadcasting episode 0347 - a special episode on the unfolding crisis in Ukraine.
PHIL
Yes, this is Phil Woodford joining Michael via Zoom and revealing that we’re going to be looking at the issue of the Russian invasion from a number of different angles. At the top of the show, we’ll ask whether we are treating this war differently from others because of the fact it’s being fought in Europe. Double standards?
MICHAEL
And for our second story, we’ll be focusing on the plight of refugees trying to flee from fighting and shelling. It seems that people of colour are facing racism from border officials. And some have even been targeted with violence by Polish nationalists.
PHIL
For our third segment on Ukraine, we wanted to talk about the propaganda war. Who’s winning? And what tactics are the two opposing nations employing?
MICHAEL
And we wanted to give a shout-out to the war correspondents who are bringing us up-to-the-minute news from the frontline. People like Clive Myrie and Lyse Doucet of the BBC. Or Matt Frei of Channel 4. How much risk should we expect them to take?
PHIL
And finally, to wrap up the show, a tribute to the unlikely hero of the war - Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. The former actor, who once pretended to be a national leader in a TV show, has taken on the role for real.
