PHIL

Hello and a very warm welcome to Five in the Eye - Colourful Radio’s weekly news review show. In London, I’m Phil Woodford and this is episode 0351.

MICHAEL

And this is me - Michael Ohajuru - joining Phil via Zoom this week and revealing that our top story is going to be the shocking report into the maternity services at Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. Mothers and babies died in large numbers over a long period of time. Were we too scared to question or criticise the health service?

PHIL

And for story number two, we’re  going to look at an OFCOM report which suggests we’re surprisingly bad at being able to spot fake news online. But we don’t realise how bad we are. That’s story number two.

MICHAEL

And for story number three, it’s the now-infamous slap at the Oscar ceremony earlier this week. Was Will Smith right to stick up for his wife? Or has he helped to normalise violence as a response to a verbal slight?

PHIL

So what’s our fourth story this week? It’s about pampered pets! Councils have an obligation to look after our furry friends in certain circumstances. But there are accusations that the cash lavished on them is excessive.

MICHAEL

And to wrap up the five this week, it’s the prisoner who escaped from custody wearing just his socks and pants.

PHIL

He then apparently decided to shave off his beard to avoid detection! And that’s this week’s Five in the Eye!
