Simbarashe Mabasha is the Founder and CEO of Shava Group, an Agriculture commodity trading business. Simbarashe pursued a number of initiatives, from minerals trading to establishing a media company. He shares his journey about how failing never stopped him as an entrepreneur and we also get to know about his key learnings over the years.
Simbarashe owned and managed an online based Fast Moving Consumable Goods (FMCG) and Minerals Trading company. He continued his entrepreneurial path to the Media industry culminating in the formation of Afrikan Dust Media Group (ADMG). ADMG was a vertically integrated Media Company focused on redesigning and re-shaping the African media landscape. He was the Co-Founder and Director at ADMG and the founding Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Wabona, one of Africa’s first video streaming services focusing on African content.
Today, he is the Founder and CEO of Shava Group SA, a company focused on Agri-Business Consultancy and Commodity Trading in Sub-Saharan Africa. Shava Group SA is built on the founding premise that Africa is the future of food and thus must play a positive and constructive role in helping build the best farms, farmers and agri-businesses that can tackle the challenge ahead.
Some of his interests include being a writer/poet and has written for online blogs like South African news blog In The News. He is also a public speaker who speaks on a range of subjects including social issues, entrepreneurship and media. He has spoken at Sri Lanka Unites, Global Unites, Allan Gray Orbis Foundation and Africa Cast. In 2010 Simbarashe was invited to speak at the Sri Lanka Unites Conference about Racial Reconciliation.
Simbarashe graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Law in 2005 at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa. While at UCT, Simbarashe was Vice-President of the Law Students Council and Deputy-Speaker of the UCT Students Parliament in 2002.
