In August of 1963, nearly 250,000 people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington to rally for “jobs and freedom”. Although, there were several charismatic speakers only one would be memorialized that day. What many people do not know is that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had originally prepared a short and somewhat formal speech that day that did not include any talks about his “dream”. Ledged has that the divine moment that took the speech from formal to monumental was when gospel singer Mahalia Jackson called out, “Tell them about your dream, Martin! Tell them about the dream!”, which prompted the audience to join in the shouts. This encouragement led to “the landmark statement of civil rights in America — a dream of all people, of all races and colors and backgrounds, sharing in an America marked by freedom and democracy”. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s dream was so clear to him that he was able to flawlessly share it and inspire others with it. Is your dream this clear, that if prompted in one moment you could articulate it so well it has the power to change the world?
