+ Holy Gospel according to Luke 10: 25-37

A doctor of the Law stood up and asked him to test him, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
Jesus asked him in turn, "What is written in the Law? What do you read in it?"
He answered him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your spirit, and your neighbour as yourself."
"You have answered exactly," Jesus said to him; "so do, and you will attain life."
But the doctor of the Law, to justify his intervention, asked him this question, "And who is my neighbour?"

Jesus said to him, "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him of everything, wounded him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road: he saw him and passed by. A Levite also passed by: he saw him and went on his way. But a Samaritan, as he passed by, saw him and was moved with pity. Then he came and dressed his wounds, covering them with oil and wine; then he put him on his own saddle, led him to an inn and took care of him. The next day, he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, "Take care of him, and whatever you spend extra, I will pay you back when I return."

Which of the three do you think behaved as a neighbour to the man assaulted by the robbers?"
"The one who had compassion on him," the doctor answered him. And Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."
