Hattie Lee Mendoza is a member of the Cherokee Nation whose art is inspired by her native ancestry, but also by a rural Kansas upbringing.She illustrates narratives by inventing compositions driven by a theme or experience, translating them through the lens of abstracted patterns she has built out of her cultural research of Cherokee and other native arts. She is one of the featured artists at the Center For Native Futures in Chicago ,Illinois, which opened in September 2023.
