A chef in a former life, Jeff Miller now researches food and culture issues as well as traditional food production and preservation methods.
Miller, coordinator of CSU’s Hospitality Management program, spent 20 years as a professional chef before becoming an award-winning instructor. He helped found the student-run Aspen Grille in the Lory Student Center on campus, and was named the 2017 CAFÉ/Sysco Corporation Educator of the Year.
An American Culinary Federation certified executive chef and culinary educator, Miller has written on a range of food topics for various popular platforms, including The Conversation, where he has covered everything from the discontinuation of the once-iconic diet soda Tab to the rise of ghost kitchens during the pandemic.
Miller’s most recent book, “Avocado: A Global History,” explores and decodes the complex history and cultural impacts of the wildly popular fruit.
Miller earned his M.S. in hotel, restaurant and institution management at Kansas State University and his Ph.D. in education and human resource studies at Colorado State.
