Description

Most days, there is a dull sound playing in the background of my life. As if a broken record is on repeat, reminding me my wounds are very much real. I have come to know this sound well but have only recently begun to understand the message it has been playing.

The only time the record seems to play a beautiful song that nudges me to dance is when I am engaged in the present moment. Typically, this only happens when I write stories like those you read, hang with my daughter, or train hard in the gym. When I am engaged in what keeps me grounded, I see all that is real, and nothing else matters.

I have realized something about these moments that bump the broken record to play a sweet tune. The very thing many of us are searching for paradoxically leaves us in an elusive pursuit for something that is often in front of us. Happiness, the very desire of all humankind, is often rarely found because we chose to find music in the digital world and forgot how beautiful the analog world could be.
