Moving away from social psychology, we are hosting an 8 week flex/intercession mini-season on cinema representations of psychology. This episode, we are covering Altered States, where William Hurt transforms into our earliest ancestors (a 4ish foot tall Australopithecus-like creature) through a drug fueled romp in an isolation tank, I wish I was kidding. We talk body horror, consciousness, shamanism, horror movies throughout time, and more in a long discussion surrounding a movie we thought was sort of OK.
Out ratings: As a movie 5.5/10, 2/10 if Dr. Parrish wasn't a character. As a psychology film 3/10. OK on content and talking points but maybe not a recommendation and certainly not one for class.
