Ferguson, Missouri: In 2014, Tobi was driving and randomly got pulled over by a cop, and the only thing racing through his mind were images of all the Black men before him that had been murdered by police.

Questions for discussion and reflection:

• What training should be happening in police academies to better handle these situations and help officers understand that just because a Black person is nervous, doesn’t necessarily mean they’re guilty of something, they might just be scared for their life? How can you as an individual push for better training to be implemented within your local police?

• Do you think it’s necessary for officers that are performing traffic violations to carry guns? Why or why not?

• Do you think this type of fear instilled within Black people (especially black men) prevents them from calling the police when they need help? What kind of impact do you think that would have on a person—being unsure if they can rely on the people that are supposed to be there to protect them?
