“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has” by Margaret Mead (1901-1978)
Commitment is defined as a willingness to give your time and energy to something that you believe in, or a promise or firm decision to do something.
Now, have you ever been on a committee where you were so passionate about making a difference and then life changed everything for you?
Or maybe you've been on a Board where not everyone seemed to be committed to their role?
Through my own experience, I've learned that if I can't commit to something that I promised to do, how important it is to let my Board, team or committee know as soon as possible. It may be a disappointment to other members of the team, but it also shows respect to those that are able to remain committed! There is no shame in saying, 'I'm sorry that I can no longer be committed to this project' OR 'I've had some changes in my life that no longer allow me the same time that I had before".
If you remove yourself from a committee for whatever reason, remember that it allows another person to have the opportunity to get involved!
Time is precious. Life changes. Do your best always...
