Many consider Jesus to be an ordinary prophet . But Jesus was more than an ordinary prophet. God gave Moses a promise that he would raise up a prophet from among his brothers, just like him. So the people were waiting for a prophet like Moses. Moses had been a great prophet who received messages from God face to face unlike others who received God’s word through dreams, visions etc. The people of Israel waited expectantly for ‘that prophet’. They asked the last of the prophets who came which was John the Baptist whether it was he that they were waiting for. But John denied saying that he was only the one who was sent to prepare the way for a One mightier than him. The One coming after him would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire. And then HE came. He is ‘THE PROPHET’ who was mighty in word and deed that was similar to Moses who was not just a Prophet who prophesied but accredited by God with signs , wonders and miracles. Jesus too did not just prophecy, He did miracles, walked on water, stilled storms, turned water into wine, raised the dead etc. That is why He was called “The Prophet” who was mighty in Word and deed. The prophecies Jesus made are still being fulfilled. When He lived on earth, Jesus prophesied to individuals, nations, on eschatological events, His own second coming, the coming judgment etc. He knows everything and all things unlike the others who knows only in part. Hebrews 4.13 says ‘everything is naked and open to his eyes’. He knows all about us, even the things we don't know
