Tom Kreffer is a first time dad and author from the UK. Tom writes to his son every day about parenthood from a dad’s point of view. He does this for many reasons: to force himself to reflect deeply about his role as a parent; to create a gift for his son when he’s older (imagine your parents giving you their journals about you on your 21st birthday); to improve his writing ability; and to give readers a unique perspective on parenthood that they won’t find in other books.
This episode, we talk about his books, his motivation behind his journaling and how they accidentally became published memoirs. We also talk about some of the aspects of first-time fatherhood and the ways fatherhood has changed us and our perspective.
I have read both books an I have found them both to be extremely entertaining, insightful and beautifully touching. "Dear Dory: Journey of a Soon-to-be First-time Dad" is available on shelves now and "Dear Arlo: Adventures in Dadding" is available from September 14th 2021.
