Juneteenth is now officially a federal holiday. The day celebrates the emancipation of black men and women from enslavement in the United States. But as a part of history, it is not so distant. It is still with us today.
On the show we hear about Bishop Cecil A. Malone, a figure of local Ithaca History who was freeing men and women from the oppression of the southern sharecropping system just two generations ago.
And, with COVID restrictions lifted, the stage is set for the theater to return.
The Hangar Theater brings us the Realness, their first in-person performance in almost a year and half. We hear a chat with the director and a cast member of the play. It’s set to be performed on the Hangar’s new outdoor stage.
