After reading an article based on a Microsoft employee survey based on remote hybrid work, they acknowledged that virtual work increased productivity but stated it would decrease creativity and innovation long term. There is no substitute for group think tanks, collaborations, and one-on-one time. Or, as they referred to it as less “rich,” conversation is inevitable.
I placed that thought into our industry, and it translates to the mindset and my favorite book, “The EMyth,” that our suite and independent landscape may, in fact, diminish creativity and innovation if it hasn’t already. If more than ½ of our industry is independent, not all can wear all three hats of Entrepreneur, Manager, and Technician as the EMyth describes today for a successful enterprise. Most will wear the technician hat, and the “rich” industry creativity and innovation will suffer.
