On this Episode of Chasing The Vase, we dive into the struggle of being a single mom, raising children while struggling with addiction. After an incident at work, Gentry was forced to take a serious look into her drinking. She shares advice for those who have a loved one struggling with an addiction and how to talk about it. Looking back, Gentry wishes her friends and family would have taken a stance against her risky behaviors. As a mom of small children, her decisions were at times reckless and dangerous. She said, "at one point, her friends and family were basically watching her die!" She was out of control and needed help. Gentry was vacillating in and out of recovery from the age of 21 until she gained control of her addiction at 31.
She shares tips on how to address someone who is struggling with an addiction. She believes that it is important to understand how addiction works and that timing is everything. Gentry said, "you must come to recovery on your own, but others can help" speed up the process.
