Day 2

Eyes Without a Face   1h 30m

Eyes Without a Face is a French horror film directed by Georges Franju and released on March 2nd 1960. The film was written by a total of five people including director Franju. An additional writing credit is given to Jean Redon, who wrote the book upon which the movie was based. An edited and dubbed version was released in North America on the 24th of October 1962 as The Horror Chamber of Doctor Faustus.

Original reception in Europe was mild to poor with many reviews dismissing it as an empty genre film since the director was an established and respected documentary filmmaker. It was considered a little shocking for the time with people in audiences allegedly leaving or fainting during some scenes. Over the years the reception changed into mostly a mostly positive one. An unedited version was finally released theatrically in North America on Halloween of 2003.

Before making Eyes Without a Face, Director Georges Franju co-founded the Cinématheque Française organization in 1936. Cinématheque Française is a nonprofit film archive with an extensive collection of films and film artifacts considered one of the largest in the world.

Eyes Without a Face is credited as the inspiration for the Billy idol song: Eyes without a face.
