As President-elect Joe Biden continues to announce his cabinet members, learn about the very first woman to be appointed as a member of the United States presidential cabinet, Frances Perkins. As the Secretary of Labor from 1933-1945, Perkins is credited with championing the New Deal, Social Security, the Wagner Act, and many more important pieces of legislation. This episode covers how she was able to repurpose the national economy, following the Great Depression, and become one of the most important social progressives in the United States despite being a female.
