This yoga nidra practice (translating to "yoga sleep" in Sanskrit) is a guided meditation that explores opposites and naturally occurring polarities existing within us and nature.
Yoga nidra is a wonderful practice that brings you into a hypnogogic state: a semi-conscious state between wakefulness and sleep. As your brain waves slow down, the body is essentially asleep while the mind remains aware. This activates our parasympathetic system where our body naturally repairs itself (we access this while sleeping every night).
Research shows that only 20 minutes of yoga nidra gives your body the same benefits as 2-3 hours of sleep. The roots of this ancient practice are more than 5,000 years old, originated in India, and lead us through the 5 "koshas" or layers of the self.
All you need to do is lay down and listen.
