The 1987 adaptation of FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC may be a poor retelling of the classic VC Andrews novel, missing a number of major story elements and tweaking others, but I’ve always thought it stood on its own merits. Say what you will about the sheer ridiculousness of the ending or some of the lukewarm performances, but there is no denying Louise Fletcher’s embodiment of Olivia Foxworth, the evil grandmother, who takes pleasure in the suffering of innocent children. She alone is worth embracing Jeffrey Bloom’s vision.
Much like the novel, this film was a large part of my formative years, and, as usual, it was a lot of fun sharing stories and memories with Tony the Tiger a.k.a. The Thunder from Down Under, as we deliver this week’s commentary for The Blind Rage Podcast.
