Five strangers are chosen to participate in an experimental film, wherein they stay in a remote mountain house and live their lives on camera. During their first night, they discover the place is booby trapped and one by one, they are picked off in grisly fashion. Have they been chosen to star in the director’s own personal snuff film, or is something more sinister going on?
KOLOBOS was a pretty inventive premise during its 1999 release. Since then, others such as MY LITTLE EYE and HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION have utilized similar plotlines, though none have been as effective or successful. With lots of tributes to Italian cinema, in particular the films of Dario Argento, KOLOBOS is a hidden gem I’ve always thought deserved a wider audience.
