This week's episode is about Jason's Lyric, a 1994 American erotic romantic drama film written by Bobby Smith Jr. and directed by Doug McHenry, who co-produced the film with George Jackson and Marilla Lane Ross. The film stars Allen Payne (Jason), Jada Pinkett-Smith (Lyric), Bokeem Woodbine (Josh, Jason’s brother), Anthony “Treach” Criss (Alonzo, Lyric’s brother), Eddie Griffin (Rat), Lahmard Tate (Ron), Lisa Nicole Carson (Marti), Forest Whitaker (Mad Dog/Jason's dad), and Suzanne Broderick (Gloria, Jason’s mom). Set in Third Ward, Houston, Texas, the film is a story about Jason who walks the straight and narrow, taking on the role of caretaker to his mother and especially his brother, Joshua. Real joy enters Jason's life when he meets Lyric. As their romance develops, Jason starts to see a future for himself. He has to choose between familial obligations to the detriment of his own happiness or a life with Lyric that can lead to happiness. He also must confront a painful secret from his past.
