Iyengar has a foundation in Ashtanga, but B.K.S. Iyengar, Founder wanted this practice to be more accessible to his students by adding in props, making the practice more hatha based and also therapeutic.

Ashtanga is very structured, it is not a beginner's practice and is a vinyasa style discipline.
