El 3 de octubre de 1814 José Miguel Carrera llegó a Santiago tras el desastre de Rancagua para mandar a prender fuego a los cuarteles, papeles y todo lo que pudiera ayudar a los españoles que iban camino a recuperar el poder en Chile.
