El 5 de marzo de 1951 se grabó por primera vez Rocket 88, escrita por Ike Turner y tocada por Kings of Rhythm. El sencillo alcanzó el número uno en lalista de R&B de Billboard y muchos expertos lo consideran el primer disco de rock and roll.
