El 21 de junio 1948 la empresa CBS lanzó el primer disco LP (Long Play) del mundo. El disco de vinilo, creado por Peter Goldmark, tenía una capacidad de alrededor de 21 minutos por lado y se reproducía a una velocidad de 33 1/3 RPM.
