Our dissatisfaction with the status quo drives us and gives us energy to be more, do more and give more. A lot of leaders have settled with the status quo and have spent years doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result. Some of these leaders have convinced themselves that the organizational culture will not change and therefore they don’t do anything.
One of the major hinderances to leaders not fulfilling their potential is that they are not hungry enough to do all that they can do. There is a lot of leadership talent wastage in organizations primary because most of the leaders are comfortable with the status quo and afraid to make changes. When leaders are not hungry enough, they justify and make excuses for their inaction, they are convinced that they cannot do much about the situation and are not ready to rock the boat. Some are quiet because observing the status quo is a way to earn their promotion. Are you hungry enough for what you want? Are you hungry to take the necessary risk to question the status quo and cause others to be hungry to take the necessary action?
A few years ago, I was listening to a video clip by Les Brown, the great motivational and transformational speaker and he said, ‘You’ve got to be Hungry’. I was so inspired and energized by that clip that I have been hungry ever since in pursuit of the things I want to accomplish in my life. Those five words were a driver of the things I have done and continue to do to this very day. As a new emerging leader, are you hungry enough to put in the work, learn, grow, experiment, invest in yourself to thrive on your leadership journey? As a business owner, are you willing to put in the long hours, and grow your business? As a leader, are you willing to be authentic, develop and build your team into a high performance team? Whatever you want to accomplish or achieve, you’ve got to be hungry proverbially to achieve it come rain or shine. Be hungry for what you want to accomplish and go to work to achieve it. Have a fantastic week and be hungry enough to take action on your goals, dreams and mission.
