Three Questions about the Prophet’s Despair
What is despair?
Despair is the loss or absence of hope.
How does despair arrive in our lives?
Despair can occur when what we hope for fails to happen.
Despair can occur when we focus on our circumstances (fears) and not on God (faith).
Despair can occur when we are exhausted or stretched too far.
Despair can occur when we are isolated, insecure, or insincere.
What is the way out of despair?
We need the ordinary and extraordinary graces of an encounter with God.
Practical graces (food and rest).
Psychological graces (companionship and touch).
Spiritual graces (word and strength).
