In this episode, Dr. Robert Cosby interviews Dr. Leland K. Hall, Sr., Howard University School of Social Work alumnus and an expert in mental health, psychiatric interventions, and community organizing. Dr. Hall earned his PhD in Psychology and Mental Health Administration from Union Institute and University. He has worked in grassroots and high level positions, including work at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, D.C., District of Columbia Public Schools, Central Union Mission, and the Patuxent Institution, a correctional mental health center in Maryland. He also served as Deputy Administrator for Mental Health in Washington, D.C., and has held teaching positions at Union Institute and University and Morgan State University. Dr. Hall discusses mental health and rehabilitation, the Civil Rights movement and memories from that time, the importance of psychiatric interventions training and mental health workers as first responders, the punitive nature of the prison system, and more.
