This tv movie from 1975, is based on the novel of the same
name. Set in the 1930s, Sooner, nine, is being raised by a poverty-stricken bootlegger named Old Mam Hawes. When Sooner is removed from the home, she becomes the ward of a childless couple in the hill country of Velray, Indiana.
