Thanks for joining me for another episode of The Well Mind Podcast – a space for meaningful conversations about a broad range of wellness topics. I’m curious, when you hear the term “Christian Counseling,” what thoughts come to mind? I think that it’s safe to say that there is a pretty broad range of opinions on what constitutes Christian Counseling, or how Christian counselors are trained, or even, how effective Christian counseling truly is. Well I asked my friend and colleague, Dr. Josh Mears, to come into the studio to discuss these very topics for today’s show. He is very clear about his professional identity as a Christian Psychologist and he speaks about how Christianity and Psychology have not been very compatible over the decades. He is a leader in the field of Christian integration, which is the practice of using both the tools of professional counseling and psychology together with the spiritual practices and beliefs of the Christian faith. Dr. Mears makes the case for the need and value of faith-informed professional counseling. We also explore the practice and impact of personal and family devotions on faith formation and wellness in ourselves and in our families.
