In our first VECINOS episode, we will have an in-depth discussion about the importance of filling out the U.S. Census. The topics will range from the first Federal Population Census taken in 1790 to 1980 when the first Hispanic origin question was added. The importance of filling out the Census will help determine congressional representation in cities with large Latinx populations, understanding the characteristics and the experience we are having economically. The Census will also help the government create policy to address issues like poverty, allocate school resources and voting rights. Lastly, we will address the fears the information collected by the Census will be used to deport illegal immigrants.
