My thoughts: I do not in any way condone violence. However, I also don't condone trolling either. I believe that Chris Rock did not deserve to be publicly slapped by Will Smith at such a powered event. Especially winning an Oscar for such a touching film. A film about a black father that trained his daughters to become the most outstanding female athletes, commanding respect when they entered the room. That being said, Rock was dead wrong to speak on a medical condition; I don't care whether people feel like he did not know. Many women don't choose to go bald by choice. Some of them do, and others have no choice. Speaking on a woman's hair but precisely a "black woman's" hair is wrong. As black women still face the "hair convo" at workplaces and school, not being able to wear braids or the fro look. Ironically he made the movie good hair and did chastise women who wore weaves.
That being said, I know Rock was traumatized as a kid, and I can imagine how humiliating it was for him to be slapped on stage. However, I think he did a good job keeping his composure. But often find, people who go through trauma or were bullied turn around and bully others. Comedy is comedy 100%. It's fun, and you can for sure make fun of people. However, medical and personal struggles should be off-limits.
I don't think Will was wrong for standing up for his wife; I just don't think he needed to put his hands on him. He could have yelled at him, for sure. However, the slap was overboard.
