As women of color, it seems no matter what we achieve, we must be labeled something. The most decorated gymnast in the world

realizes there is something amiss in her focus, and instead of "doing something stupid," she withdraws for the good of her team and herself.

Still, her struggle is reduced to identity politics. She had done nothing to suggest she was BLM, nor had she disrespected the flag or the national anthem. She was clearly experiencing a breakdown, and yet the epithets rang out. "Quitter," "Weak," and "An Embarrassment"

No one bothered to see her as a human being.

Some don't want to define what she did as heroic. Perhaps they don't recognize her courage, still, it isn't the very definition of courage.
