A Critical Analysis of Trump’s QAnon Question and Answer

In today’s episode I provide a critical analysis of Trump’s Answer to Guthrie’s question regarding QAnon and Trump’s willingness to disavow, and/or condemn QAnon.

What is QAnon? A Couple of Key Points

  1. QAnon is not a conspiracy theory, it’s a group of followers of Q who is allegedly a White House insider leaking classified information online. So QAnon is not a conspiracy theory, but rather a group of people who believe a conspiracy theory.
  2. QAnon does not claim that DEMOCRATS run a satanic child sex-trafficking ring. They claim that:
    1. Both some democrats, republicans, celebrities, and wealthy elites are involved in a child trafficking. Some of it is satanic, but not all of it.
    2. Trump knows about this, and plans mass arrests and indictments of people within this group.

Trump Does Side-Step This Issue To A Certain Degree, But Why and Is He Justified In Doing So?

  1. Trump knows that Q has million of followers and the doesn’t want to lose those votes.
  2. Trump is against pedophilia - at least publicly - and so he wanted to point out that QAnon is at least correct in that respect.
  3. I think Tump likes the idea of being seen as a savior, and won’t often disavow people who treat him that way. Although he did disavow people like David Duke who endorsed him for president.

Trump was right to discuss the nuance of the issue, and Savannah Guthrie was intellectually dishonest in both her summary of QAnon and her request that Trump disavow the entirety of QAnon’s opinions.
