In Daniel chapter 2 we see the most powerful man in Babylon powerless and the wisest men clueless when it comes to knowing and interpreting Nebuchadnezzar's dream. "There is no one on earth who can do what the king asks!" But there is a God in heaven who can and, unlike the false gods, he does dwell with the lowly and contrite in spirit (Isaiah 57 v 15) - with men like Daniel and his friends. And to Daniel God reveals what Nebuchadnezzar's dream is and what it means. Which means that not only are Daniel and his friends' lives saved but so too are the lives of the not-so-wise wise men. And that's a picture of the mercy and grace of God, who revealed his wisdom supremely in and through Jesus Christ, so that those who are by nature objects of his wrath (all of us who are sinners) might be saved from death and condemnation and given everlasting life.
