This one was suggested to us by friend of the show, Scott Martichuski, and it is a Jim Henson Christmas special called "The Christmas Toy." Starring some of the most adorable muppets ever (Rugby the Tiger, Mew the mouse) and some of the most horrifying muppets ever (Apple.) al together in one delightful playroom. We couldn't help but notice a lot of similarities between this heartfelt Christmas special and a certain groundbreaking computer-animated masterpiece that depicts a world of toys that come to life when people are absent from the room. Oh, there's also a delusional space-themed toy that has to grapple with identity. We were not quite prepared for how deep into existentialism this CHRISTMAS movie got but we were won over by the cute characters and the impressive puppetry, and it really did put us in the Christmas mood.
We were not familiar with this movie before recording and it was so nice to have our special guest host Nick there to help us grapple with exactly what we just saw and also relish in the heart-warming moments that are rampant throughout.
