Description

Ashley James is the Director of Practice and Development at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP). Born and raised in North Wales, he graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a degree in physiotherapy in 2009. His early exposure to diverse physiotherapy placements, including intensive care, shaped his career aspirations.


Ashley began his career in private practice under the mentorship of an experienced practitioner, Gareth. Simultaneously, he volunteered at a local rugby club, eventually working with the regional team RGC and the Welsh national rugby setup, including roles with Wales U20s and Wales Sevens teams. These experiences honed his skills in sports physiotherapy and team dynamics.


Transitioning to occupational health, Ashley joined IPRS Health, managing a clinic at a Ford engine plant and later becoming the national lead for onsite services. He emphasized the concept of the "industrial athlete," integrating clinical expertise with workplace solutions.


In 2020, Ashley became the Head of Education at Connect Health, where he created an Academy of Learning for over 600 clinicians. His role focused on developing educational frameworks and improving clinical practice through feedback and innovation.


As Director of Practice and Development at CSP, Ashley leads initiatives to advance physiotherapy practice. He leverages his diverse background in private practice, occupational health, and professional sports to influence healthcare delivery.


Ashley is pursuing a Masters in Leadership, Management, and Innovation. He previously started a PhD on occupational back pain, which was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.


Ashley advocates for diverse leadership styles, emphasizing empathy and collaboration. He aims to contribute to the NHS or third sector in future roles, focusing on improving healthcare delivery.


Outside of work, Ashley enjoys family time and remains involved in rugby. His career reflects a passion for physiotherapy, professional growth, and innovative leadership.
