Oops, it's Thursday - sorry for the delay in releasing this week's ep but we PROMISE it was absolutely worth the wait. Today, we discuss a topic on the minds of many (if not all) Australians in light of the 26 January public holiday, 'Australia Day,' or 'Invasion Day.' There has been a lot of talk over the past decade or so about the offense and harm the date 26 January causes for our Indigenous Australians and First Nation people. In this episode, we take you through the two main historical narratives for 26 January, what it symbolises, the current stance of our politicians and leaders on the #ChangetheDate movement, where we both sit as non-Indigenous Australians (spoiler alert: we have quite the debate regarding the #ChangetheDate v #AbolishtheDate movements), and finally, we end with some really thoughtful and eloquent comments from Courtney Hagen, co-host of the podcast 'Coming Out Blak' who gives her perspective as an Indigenous Australian, talks to us about what 'Australia Day' represents for her, and gives us some super useful tools to help us all educate ourselves further on the history of our country and how we can be better allies to our Indigenous/First Nations community.
